Who am I?

         Hello, I'm Rachel!

I am a self-motivated psychotherapist and my goal is to empower clients identify their natural or developed strenghts, find hope and recognize growth and change are possible. I gravitate towards using a person-centered approach offering you an opportunity to express yourself fully. Help you explore, discover and understand yourself and your needs by being genuine, showing unconditional positive regard and empathy. This process is essential for learning how to best care for yourself which often leads to less anxiety and more confidence or clarity in your life.

Because I believe the client is an expert on its own life, I give clients the option to choose the direction of our sessions, therefore I have used solution focused, existential therapy and cognitive behavior therapies in the past, depending on the presenting issue.

I obtained a Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from University of Texas, San Antonio where I also received a certificate in bilingual counseling, as a Spanish speaking counselor. To further enhance my capabilities and stability in the field, I am currently pursuing a PhD in counselor education and supervision. I am  licensed by the state of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. In the past, I’ve worked with individuals with severe mental health concerns, elderly populations, hospice clients and children. I believe my enthusiasm for this field, along with rigorous academic knowdlege combined with my life experiences help me understand my clients with empathy and intuition.
